The study assessed how solid waste is managed and disposed off by the local authorities. The study also looked at the effects or diseases that may arise due to the improper management and disposal of solid waste in the central business district of Lusaka. The method used was the case study and the study population was selected using the simple random sampling technique. The results show that the study population has knowledge on how solid waste is managed and disposed off. Also revealed is that local authorities face a lot of challenges due to lack of resources for the proper implementation of improved solid waste management and disposal practices. The study concludes that there is need to sensitize the general public on the importance of proper solid waste management and disposal practices and for production companies to take responsibility of their waste products and disposal methods.en_US
