Abstract
This study was carried out among the private schools of Lusaka District to determine the level of corporate governance practices in selected private schools. It also assessed the level of compliance towards the appointment of management boards in private schools and the mechanism used to appoint the boards. The research employed the mixed methods research approach, utilising the survey research design. The findings revealed that only half of the private schools had boards of management in place which was contrary to the Education Act of 2011. It was also established that there was no common mechanism to appoint the boards. However, the study discovered that there was a fair balance between executive and non-executive types of boards. There was also evidence that these boards of management were selectively practicing principles of corporate governance.
