Navigating the Environmental, Legal and Regulatory Challenges of Sewerage Systems in Zambia: A Comparative Study with Zimbabwe

Abstract

This thesis was focused on the legal and regulatory challenges of sewerage systems in Zambia by doing a comparative study with Zimbabwe. The purpose of this study was to address the challenges faced with sewers In spite of some laws enacted and also addressing accountability of sewerage system law challenges. The objectives of this thesis addressed the laws and challenges faced in Zambia and Zimbabwe by bringing out laws and existing negative effects of sewerage systems on the environment. Further they addressed reforms and best practices performed by other countries. The thesis also addressed the negative impact caused by sewerage systems in Zambia due to lack of abiding by the laws and also in spite of abiding by the existing laws. It also addressed ways in which other countries are working on their laws and frameworks in order to address and minimize challenges arising from sewerage systems. The dissertation further gave recommendations on how Zambia can improve its sewerage systems in order to help with the proper maintenance and management of sewerage systems and contribute to the well- being and sustainable development of the environment.
