Assessing the Efficacy of the International Criminal Court(ICC) in Combatting War Crimes: A Case Study of The Prosecutor V Jean-Pierre Bemba Gomba
    (2026) PHIRI, Tania
This study critically assessed the efficacy of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in combating war crimes, using The Prosecutor v Jean-Pierre Bemba Gomba as the axis case study. It explored how evidentiary challenges, political constraints, and lack of sufficient resources influence the ICC’s quest for justice. Drawing on legal global analysis, academic literature, and ICC judgements, the study analyzed whether the court has managed to fulfill its mandate to put an end to impunity for war crimes. Findings showed that while the ICC has strengthened global accountability mechanisms, its effectiveness is still barred by structural and procedural shortcomings.
