    The Legal Proctection accorded to victims of crime: A Human Rights Approach

    It is often stated that the pain that one goes through can only be measured once you experience it. It is key to note that the victims of crime in Zambia experience so much emotional trauma, psychological stress, and consequently lose trust in the justice system. This research examined and highlighted the key legal rights of the victims of crime such as the right to information, the right to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness, the right to protection from intimidation and harassment, the right to participate and be heard and the right to seek restitution or compensation. This research analyzed the relevant national and international legal frameworks to understand how these protections are implemented in practice. The aim was to assess the effectiveness of current measures in enabling victims to recover from physical, psychological and financial harm. It is carnal to state that while there are laws that protect the rights of the victims of crime, challenges still persist. Therefore, this research emphasized the necessity of prioritizing and safeguarding victims’ interests to achieve a more balanced justice system.
