Abstract
This study aimed to determine the knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning among married women of Namwianga Mission in Zambia. A study was conducted among 50 married women aged 15-49 years using a focused group discussion. The results showed that the majority of the respondents had knowledge about family planning methods, with slightly over two thirds reporting that they knew at least one method. However, misconceptions about
the safety and effectiveness of certain methods were also identified. The attitude towards family planning was generally positive, with the majority of respondents indicating that family planning was important. Despite this, only few of respondents reported using a modern contraceptive method, with fear of side effects and opposition from their partners being the main reasons for non-use. The study highlights the need for further education and counselling on family planning to address misconceptions and increase uptake among married women in Namwianga Mission.
